TYLER, Texas – Guard Hannah Boyett became the first player for University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball to make at least six threes without a miss by shooting 6-for-6 from distance Thursday at UT Tyler.
However, the effort wasn't enough as the Lions fell behind 14-0 to start the game in a 63-53 loss to the Patriots. Boyett then opened the scoring for UAFS with a three and finished with a game-high 22 points for the Lions.
UT Tyler led by as many as 26 in the first half before the Lions closed the half on a 6-0 run over the final two minutes to make the score 40-20 in favor of the Patriots at the break.
In the third, the teams played even with both squads scoring 16 points. UAFS made a run in the fourth quarter, going on a 14-0 run over a nearly six-minute stretch and held the Patriots to 7.7 percent shooting in the quarter. Boyett led the surge with eight points.
The run cut the Lions deficit to 60-53 but there would be less than a minute on the clock, and the Patriots sealed the game with three free throws.
Guard Rodrea Echols added 10 points off the bench, while guard Riley Hayes added eight points and five boards. Guard Esther Oluade led the Lions with nine rebounds and three assists, while forwards Kayla Brundidge and Dala Allen had eight and seven rebounds, respectively.
UAFS concludes the four-game road trip Saturday at 2 p.m. at No. 4 Texas Woman's.
