Prince scores 26 in win at Midwestern State

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Guard Aaliyah Prince scored a game-high 26 points as University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball earned a 68-65 win at Midwestern State Thursday.

Prince was 9-for-15 shooting coming off the bench, also adding five rebounds and three steals. Prince finished 8-for-10 from the free throw line, as well. Guard Hannah Boyett contributed 12 points, six rebounds and two assists while knocking down a pair of threes.

The Lions led for over 35 minutes, gathering its largest lead at 11 points midway through the second quarter. They got there by closing the first quarter on an 11-3 run and then using a 6-1 run to lead, 34-23.

MSU would close the half on a 5-0 burst, with the Lions leading 38-32 at the break.

UAFS led by no less than five for the entire third quarter, carrying an eight-point advantage into the final frame. The Mustangs got within two twice in the fourth, but baskets by Prince and guard Esther Oluade gave the Lions a two possession cushion each time.

The Mustangs had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but the UAFS defense forced a missed three to secure the win.

UAFS finished at 39.0 percent shooting but held the Mustangs to just 36.1 percent from the floor and 21.1 percent from beyond the arc.

The Lions outscored the Mustangs, 34-15, in bench points and 34-28 in points in the paint. The Lions also won the rebounding battle, 45-37, with 13 offensive rebounds.

Forward Kayla Brundidge added seven points and eight rebounds for the Lions, while guard Riley Hayes tallied six points.

The Lions wrap up the weekend Saturday at Cameron with a 1 p.m. tipoff.
