Deja vu: Lions complete another five-set comeback

PORTALES, N.M. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball completed its second five-set comeback win in as many nights by defeating Eastern New Mexico 14-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-23, 15-8 Saturday to move to 2-0 in Lone Star Conference play.

The Lions were in danger of being swept as the Greyhounds held match point up 24-22 in set three. However, the Lions scored the final four points of the set with outside hitter Paola Fragalle getting two kills that tied the match.

UAFS had hit negative after two sets and .000 following the third set, but turned things around to hit .170 in set four and a blistering .522 in set five.

UAFS trailed early in set four but then went on a 5-0 run for a 7-6 lead. The Lions built the lead up to four points before the Greyhounds evened the set at 15-15. After trading the next few points, UAFS used a 4-0 run to lead 23-19 and then held off a late Greyhound rally with a kill from right-side hitter Hannah Holland.

A 5-0 burst in the middle of set five gave the Lions a 10-4 lead as they then cruised to a comeback win.

Middle blocker Chyra Thompson once again was a force at the net, leading the team with 13 kills while Fragalle chipped in with 12 kills. Holland added nine kills while outside hitter Reagan Macha and middle blocker Hannah Watkins each had six kills.

Both teams had 12 blocks, with Holland racking up seven blocks and Thompson five blocks. Holland had four solo blocks and Thompson three.

Setter Chloe Price had a double-double of 43 assists and 12 digs while Chloe Alderson stepped into the libero role to record 22 digs.
