DALLAS – Middle blocker Hannah Watkins had 14 kills and hit .500 and setter Chloe Price had a season-high 49 assists as University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball defeated St. Mary's in four sets, 25-20, 25-20, 17-25, 25-18 in the finale of the Lone Star Conference Crossover Saturday.
UAFS had a season-high 54 assists and hit .273 overall, the third highest mark of the year.
A back-and-forth first set, the Lady Lions finally broke the set open with a 5-1 spurt to turn a 19-18 lead into set point. Outside hitter Reagan Macha then gave UAFS the 1-0 lead with a kill.
St. Mary's started off set two with an 11-4 lead before UAFS started to chip away. Trailing 18-13, the Lions closed the set on a 12-2 run with three kills from outside hitter Abby Cagle and five Rattler attack errors.
The Rattlers then took set three before the Lions closed out the match by hitting .368 in set four. Watkins had five of her kills in set four. The Lions had a 7-1 run in the middle of the set and closed out the match with a 6-3 run.
Macha, middle blocker Hannah Holland and outside hitter Abby Cagle each added nine kills, with Holland hitting .529 and Cagle .368.
Price recorded a double-double by adding 11 digs to her stat line, matching that of libero Lauren Weber. Macha had a near double-double with nine digs.
UAFS held an 11-6 edge in aces, with Holland tallying three of those.
The Lions will now begin LSC action September 16 at Lubbock Christian.
