FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball was swept by UT Tyler in a doubleheader Saturday at Crowder Field, with the Patriots winning 13-4 and 9-3.
The Lions will look to even the series in the finale at 1 p.m. Sunday.
UT Tyler 13, UAFS 4
The Patriots scored 11 unanswered runs to rally from a 4-2 deficit to take game one from the Lions. UT Tyler tied it at 4-4 with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, then scored twice in the fifth to take the lead and broke the game open with seven runs in the sixth inning.
After the Patriots once again scored twice in the top of the first, UAFS responded with a run in the second when catcher Nico Patrick reached on an infield single, with a throwing error on the play allowing second baseman Noah Davis to score.
UAFS scored three times in the second to take the lead, first tying the game on a sacrifice fly by outfielder Hunter Church. Davis then gave the Lions the lead on an RBI single and would come around to score on a wild pitch.
The Lions would manage just two hits in the final five innings.
Davis and outfielder Kinner Brasher each had two hits with Davis also scoring twice.
Starter Logan Grant suffered the loss after allowing six runs – three earned – on nine hits with five strikeouts over 4.2 innings.

UT Tyler 9, UAFS 3
Four errors led to six unearned runs as the Patriots completed the doubleheader sweep.
UT Tyler took a 1-0 lead with a homer in the top of the second, then a pair of errors allowed the Patriots to scored four more times in the inning for a 5-0 advantage.
Blayse Quarnstrom led off the bottom of the second with a triple to right center and scored on an RBI single by Brasher as the Lions tried to chip away at the lead.
Brayden Johnson put up a zero in the top of the third on the mound, with the Lions then scoring two more times in the third. Shortstop Brooks Sunny drove in Davis after he and first baseman Nolan Riley walked, and Riley made it 5-3 by scoring on a throwing error.
However, two more errors in the fourth led to two more Patriot runs to lead 7-3, and they then tacked on single runs in the sixth and seventh.
The Lions put two runners on in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings but were unable to come up with the clutch hits.
Just two of the eight runs surrendered by Johnson were earned, as he pitched six innings. He gave up nine hits and struck out five.
