ODESSA, Texas – Brooks Sunny drove in six runs but it wasn't enough as University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Baseball fell, 11-8, at UT Permian Basin in the series finale Sunday.
Sunny hit a grand slam in the eighth inning to pull the Lions within 11-8 but the Falcons scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth for the final margin.
UAFS took a 2-0 lead in the first when Sunny drove in a pair on a two-run single to left center.
UTPB then scored four runs in the bottom of the first and held that lead until the third, when the Lions tied the game on an error and an RBI single by third baseman Blayse Quarnstrom.
The Falcons then scored seven unanswered runs between the fourth through sixth innings before the Sunny grand slam.
Sunny finished 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs and two walks, as well, while Quarnstrom, outfielder Hunter Church and outfielder Cade Appleman all had two hits apiece.
Dylan Rollins started on the mound for the Lions, pitching three innings and giving up four runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
The Lions are back at home next weekend to host UT Tyler in a four-game Lone Star Conference series.
