OKLAHOMA CITY – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Baseball struggled to get the offense going as Oklahoma Christian swept the Lions in a doubleheader Friday at Dobson Field. The Eagles won the opener, 12-3, before taking the nightcap, 7-2.
The series concludes with a doubleheader Saturday, which has been moved up to 11 a.m. with inclement weather in the area for tomorrow night.
Oklahoma Christian 12, UAFS 3
The Lions hit a pair of solo home runs, but the Eagles scored 10 unanswered runs in the series opener.
After the Eagles scored single tallies in the first two innings, outfielder Kinner Brasher got the Lions on the board in the top of the third with a solo home run to right center. Outfielder Hunter Church then walked and scored to tie the game on an RBI triple by infielder Nolan Riley.
UAFS took the lead in the fourth when outfielder Cash Balentine reached out a poked an opposite field home run to put Lions up 3-2.
However, the Eagles quickly answered with five runs in the bottom half of the fourth and added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Brasher led the Lions at the plate with two hits, while starter Brayden Johnson took the loss after allowing nine runs – three earned – on nine hits over 4.1 innings. He struck out five.
Oklahoma Christian 7, UAFS 2
Brasher led off the game with a homer to left for an early 1-0 lead but the Eagles responded with three runs in the bottom of the first off starter Dylan Rollins.
The Eagles added two more runs in the second to extend the lead to 5-1 and tallied a sixth in the fifth inning.
UAFS got one run back in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by infielder Brooks Sunny but OC put the margin back to five in the bottom half of the frame.
Rollins tossed six innings on the mound, allowing seven runs on eight hits with four strikeouts. Dylan Parham threw two scoreless innings in relief.
