FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Tennis picked up its first Lone Star Conference win Friday with a 6-1 defeat of Western New Mexico at the Fort Smith Athletic Club.
The Lions swept doubles play, with Camila Romero and Isabella Serrano opening the match with a 6-1 win at number three. Petra Csizmadia and Chloe Ruppanner followed that up with a 6-4 win at number two, while Bianca Koen and Joanna Potet closed out doubles with a 7-5 victory at number one.
Potet earned the first singles point for the Lions with a 6-2, 6-1 win at number two, with Csizmadia extending the lead to 3-0 with a 7-6, 6-2 triumph at number three.
Koen dropped set one of her match, 6-7, but bounced back nicely with 6-3 and 6-0 wins in sets two and three, respectively, to seal the win for the Lions.
Jenny Zapien and Romero completed the scoring for the Lions with 6-3, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-3 wins at numbers five and six, respectively.
UAFS will finish the home portion of its schedule tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. and honor its seniors prior to the match against UT Permian Basin.
