FORT SMITH, Ark. – Guard Aaliyah Prince scored a career-high 30 points as University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball was defeated 86-75 by No. 20 Texas Woman's Friday at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
Prince was 12-for-18 from the floor and 6-for-9 from the free throw line while adding five rebounds and two steals. Guard Rodrea Echols tied a season high with 11 points, going 4-for-4 with a pair of threes.
The Lions went back-and-forth with the Pioneers for the first six minutes before TWU closed the quarter on a 10-4 run to lead 26-16 after the first 10 minutes.
TWU led 44-32 at the break and extended the lead to 13 in the third, but the Lions clawed back into the game as a 6-0 run pulled them within 57-52 with 2:49 left in the third. However, the Pioneers responded with a 6-0 run of their own to take the lead back to double digits.
UAFS cut the deficit to single digits multiple times to begin the fourth but were unable to close the gap.
The Lions shot 51.9 percent from the floor and 57.1 percent from beyond the arc while holding TWU to 11.8 percent from three, but the Pioneers went 26-for-27 from the charity stripe and shot 50.9 percent from the floor. TWU had a 40-32 advantage in points in the paint.
Guard Hannah Boyett added nine points on a trio of triples while guard Riley Hayes was 2-for-2 from distance.
Next up for UAFS is a matchup against UT Tyler at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Stubblefield Center.
