LUBBOCK, Texas – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball went toe-to-toe with Lubbock Christian for three quarters, but the Lady Chaps shot 75.0 percent and scored 31 points in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 76-49 win Saturday at the Rip Griffin Center.
The Lions trailed 47-39 early in the fourth after a layup by forward Kayla Brundidge, but LCU went on a 12-2 run over the next two minutes to break the game open.
UAFS kept it close throughout the first 20 minutes, never letting the Lady Chaps lead by more than eight. Down 26-18, the Lions used a 7-2 run to pull within 28-25 and then trailed by just three at the break at 31-28 but were unable to make up ground in the second half.
Guard Aaliyah Prince led the Lions offensively with 20 points on 9-of-19 shooting. Brundidge was the only other Lion in double figures with 10 points. Forward Sinetra Jones corralled 10 rebounds off the bench.
Baskets were hard to come by for the Lions, who shot just 36.4 percent from the field and 15.4 percent from three. The UAFS defense held LCU to 27.3 percent from beyond the arc.
Each team recorded 10 offensive rebounds, with the Lions turning them into 13 second chance points.
UAFS will look to bounce back at home next week against Angelo State and UT Permian Basin.
