UAFS returns from break to host ranked foe

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball returns to action this weekend as the Lions are slated to host Texas Woman's University and UT Tyler at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.

TWU will come to Fort Smith Friday for a 4 p.m. tip while the Lions and Patriots will ring in the new year with a 1 p.m. contest Sunday.

Both games will be streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network with live stats available at uafslions.com.

NOTES:

LAST TIME OUT: UAFS was defeated, 65-48, in its final game before the holiday break at Oklahoma Christian.

BACK HOME: The Lions have played seven of their first 11 games on the road but return home this weekend where they have posted a 3-1 mark.

AFTER CHRISTMAS: UAFS has posted a 9-4 record in its first game back from the holiday break.

AROUND THE LEAGUE: Guard Aaliyah Prince is seventh in the LSC in scoring at 14.6 points per game. Guard Riley Hayes is second in three-point field goal percentage at 41.2 percent and third in made threes per game at 2.5. Forward Kayla Brundidge is seventh in blocks at 1.3 per game.

RECORD WATCH: Guard Hannah Boyett is third with 115 career made threes. Hayes is tied for ninth with 54 made threes.

THE SERIES: Texas Woman's leads the series with UAFS, 5-1, while the Lions have a 2-1 edge over UT Tyler.

SCOUTING TWU: The Pioneers are No. 20 in the latest WBCA Top 25, as they enter with a 9-0, 4-0 LSC record on a seven-game winning streak. TWU is led by LSC Preseason Player of the Year Ashley Ingram, who leads the Pioneers with 14.3 points per game while also pulling down 5.6 rebounds.

SCOUTING UTT: The Patriots are 9-2, 4-0 LSC and are led by guard Destini Whitehead at 14.5 points per game. UTT is second in the league in allowing just 58.5 points per game with an 11.3 scoring margin. The Patriots top the league in opponent's field goal percentage at 35.3 percent.
