EDMOND, Okla. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball couldn't overcome a slow start in a 65-48 loss at Oklahoma Christian Monday.
The Eagles jumped out to an 8-0 lead as the Lions didn't score until the 3:56 mark on a layup by guard Aaliyah Prince. UAFS then pulled within 12-8 on another Prince layup before a three by the Eagles made it 15-8 after the first 10 minutes.
Oklahoma Christian led by 18 at the half, but the Lions chipped away over the second half of the third quarter and early fourth, drawing within 47-39 on a three by guard Nya Stewart with 8:22 remaining.
However, the Eagles answered with a 7-0 run as they extended the lead back to double digits.
Prince led the Lions with 15 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Guard Hannah Boyett added eight points, while forward Kayla Brundidge had a team-high nine rebounds.
UAFS had just four assists to 23 turnovers on the afternoon, and was outrebounded, 46-36.
The Lions return to action after the holiday against Texas Woman's on December 30.
