FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball could not overcome 24 turnovers as the Lions fell in Lone Star Conference action, 71-52, Saturday to UT Permian Basin at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
The Lions would force 19 turnovers themselves, but shot just 34.5 percent from the floor and 20.7 percent from three.
After an 8-2 start by the Falcons, the Lions pulled back within three at 14-11 on a three by guard Aaliyah Prince. However, the Falcons closed the first quarter on a 7-0 run over the final two minutes.
UAFS then shot 50.0 percent in the second quarter to outscore the Falcons, 21-19, to trail 40-32 at the break.
The third quarter did the Lions no favors though, as the Falcons led by 17 at the end of the third as the Lions shot just 16.7 percent. The UAFS defense held UTPB to just 22.2 percent in the frame, but the Falcons went 6-for-8 at the free throw line.
Guard Hannah Boyett led the Lions with 12 points off the bench while also tallying a team-high four assists. Three others dished out three assists as UAFS assisted on 16 of 20 made baskets.
Guard Aaliyah Prince tallied 11 points and eight rebounds, while forward Kayla Brundidge recorded 10 points and six boards.
UTPB outrebounded the Lions, 44-35, including 12 offensive boards which led to a 15-6 edge in second chance points for the Falcons.
UAFS will be on the road for its final game before the holiday break, visiting Oklahoma Christian on December 19.
