Lions begin conference play at No. 3 West Texas A&M

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball begins Lone Star Conference play this week with a road trip to No. 3 West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian.

The Lions are slated to play the Lady Buffs at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and the Lady Chaps at 1 p.m. Saturday. Both games will be streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network with live stats available at uafslions.com.

NOTES:

LAST TIME OUT: UAFS picked up its first two wins of the season by defeating Northeastern State, 81-78, and UA Monticello, 69-58, last week at the Stubblefield Center.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN: UAFS is seeking its first road in of the year after dropping its first four road games. Both of last week's wins came at home.

LEAGUE OPENER: This will be the second consecutive year the Lions begin Lone Star Conference play against West Texas A&M. UAFS is 7-6 in conference openers.

IN THE LEAGUE: Guard Aaliyah Prince is seventh in the LSC in scoring at 15.7 points per game. Guard Riley Hayes is third in made threes per game at 2.8 and fifth in percentage at 50.0 percent. Forward Kayla Brundidge is seventh in blocks at 1.3.

BEYOND THE ARC: UAFS made a season-high 15 threes in the win over Northeastern State, with Riley Hayes making six and guard Hannah Boyett making five. UAFS is second in the LSC shooting 38.2 percent from distance.

FROM THE LINE: UAFS is third in the league in free throw percentage at 73.7 percent.

RECORD WATCH: Guard Hannah Boyett ranks third all-time with 109 career made threes.

THE SERIES: UAFS is looking for its first win against West Texas A&M, as the Lady Buffs lead the series, 8-0. Lubbock Christian also leads, 15-1.

SCOUTING WT: The Lady Buffs are ranked No. 3 in the WBCA Top 25 and are 6-0 to start the year. They are second in the league in both scoring offense and defense and lead the league in rebounding and opponent field goal percentage. Guard Karley Motschenbacher leads WT with 16.2 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.

SCOUTING LCU: The Lady Chaps have rattled off four straight wins after dropping their first two games of the season. Three players average double figures in scoring, led by forward Grace Foster, who averages a double-double with 19.3 points and 11.0 rebounds per game.
