FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith capped its home schedule with a third-straight win Saturday defeating UT Permian Basin 25-19, 25-23, 19-25, 25-19 on Senior Day at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
Seniors would lead the way for the Lions, as middle blocker Hannah Holland had eight kills on a .353 attack percentage to go with five blocks and seven aces. The seven aces makes for a four-way tie for the second most in a single match.
Setter Chloe Price added yet another double-double, dishing out 20 assists and collecting 12 digs. Price also added two blocks.
Despite getting off to a slow start in the first set for the second match in a row, the Lions rebounded from a 6-1 deficit to take an 8-7 lead with a 7-1 run. The Falcons held a 16-15 lead before the Lions rallied off four straight points for a 19-16 advantage. Leading 22-19, the Lions took set one off three consecutive attack errors by the Falcons.
Set two saw the Lions trail 11-3 until they rallied with a 7-0 run to pull within 12-11. A 7-2 run later gave the Lions the lead, but the Falcons fought back to tie the set at 18-18. Down 20-19, UAFS scored three straight for a 22-20 advantage and traded the remaining points with the Falcons for the 2-0 lead.
The Lions turned the tables with a 12-6 lead in set three, but the Falcons used two 5-0 runs and a 6-0 run to keep the match alive.
UAFS began set four with a 6-1 advantage and broke the set open with a 8-0 burst as Holland picked up three aces and a kill during the run. UAFS sealed the match with a 4-0 run to go 3-0 on the week.
Libero Lauren Weber led five players with double figure digs with 25, while also collecting six assists.
Setter Chloe Alderson, outside hitter Reagan Macha and outside hitter Caelyn Gunn all had double-doubles with Alderson tallying 14 assists and 15 digs and Macha recording 11 kills and 11 digs. Gunn had a team-high 14 kills and 19 digs.
UAFS had a 10-5 edge in aces and 8-5 edge in blocks.
The Lions close out the regular season next week at Midwestern State and Texas Woman's.
