Lions use balanced attack to down Aggies

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Volleyball used a balanced attack as the Lions swept visiting Cameron University, 25-19, 25-11, 25-14 at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center Saturday.

Outside hitter Caelyn Gunn had a team-high 10 kills while outside hitter Paola Fragalle added nine kills. Middle blockers Hannah Holland and Hannah Watkins each had eight kills by hitting .375 and .571, respectively. Gunn produced a double-double by recording 14 digs.

UAFS got off to a slow start in set one but quickly turned things around with 5-0 and 7-0 runs. Holland had three consecutive aces during the 7-0 run. Cameron clawed its way back within three but a pair of kills by Gunna gave the Lions the 1-0 lead.

The Aggies were no match for the Lions in set two as the Lions defense held them to a -.048 attack percentage. UAFS broke a one-point set open with a 6-0 spurt to lead 14-7 and then later closed the set with eight straight points.

UAFS hit .302 in the final set as it steadily built its lead to put the match away. The Lions would hit .223 for the match while holding the Aggies to .051.

The Lions recorded seven aces to just one for the Aggies, with Holland collecting four of them.

Setters Chloe Price and Chloe Alderson each had 17 assists with Alderson tallying a double-double with 11 digs. Libero Lauren Weber had her ninth match with at least 20 digs with 26.

UAFS continues conference play Wednesday by hosting Dallas Baptist University at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center for its annual Pink Game.
