Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Weber strong defensively in match at TAMIU

LAREDO, Texas – A strong defensive effort by libero Lauren Weber wasn't enough as University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball fell in four sets at Texas A&M International Saturday, 27-29, 25-22, 15-25, 20-25.

Weber's 27 digs are the second most in a match for her this season. Setters Chloe Price and Chloe Alderson each had double-doubles with Alderson recording 22 assists and 16 digs while Price had 19 assists and 14 digs.

UAFS had a 21-19 lead in set one until the Dustdevils scored four straight points for a 23-21 advantage. UAFS held off multiple match points before TAMIU scored on a kill and a Lion attack error to win the set.

The Lions evened the match in set two by using a 4-0 spurt to turn a 17-16 deficit into a 20-17 lead. The teams then traded points as the Lions took the set.

UAFS led for much of set three and had a 13-8 lead but the Dustdevils closed the set on a 17-2 run to take a 2-1 lead. The Lions were once again able to lead early in set four, but the Dustdevils took the lead with a 5-0 run before closing out the match.

Outside hitter Caelyn Gunn and middle blocker Chyra Thompson each led the Lions with 10 kills while middle blocker Hannah Holland added nine kills on a .450 attack percentage. Holland also had five assisted blocks.

UAFS will next host Drury University in a nonconference matchup Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center. Following the match, the team will be signing its 2022 schedule posters.
