FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Volleyball bounced back in a big way Tuesday, sweeping Drury University, 25-16, 25-20, 25-13 in a nonconference match at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
The Lady Lions hit a blistering .303 for the match and held the Panthers to a .064 attack percentage. Outside hitter Paola Fragalle had a team-high 13 kills on a .360 attack percentage.
Outside hitter Caeyln Gunn added 10 kills while hitting .280 and middle blocker Hannah Holland had eight kills on a .571 attack percentage.
Libero Lauren Weber led the defensive charge with 18 digs as UAFS held the Panthers to a .000 hitting percentage in set three. The Lions also racked up seven blocks, with four by middle blocker Kaelyn McDonald and three from middle blocker Angelina Hardison.
The only time the Lions trailed on the evening was the first point of the third set.
UAFS led 3-0 to start set one and built the lead up to as many as eight. They then closed the set with a 4-1 run to take the 1-0 set lead.
The Lions led 10-5 in set two before the Panthers answered with a 5-0 spurt to tie the set at 10-10. But UAFS showed resiliency by scoring the next four points and slowly growing the lead. The lead grew to seven at 24-17 before the Lions held off a late Panther rally.
Despite trailing 1-0 in set three the Lions had their best set of the match as they hit .375. UAFS had a pair of 3-0 and 4-0 runs to lead 22-9 at one point.
UAFS had four aces, two each coming from Weber and Fragalle. Setters Chloe Price and Chloe Alderson had 17 and 16 assists, respectively.
The Lions will have the weekend off before visiting Arkansas Tech October 10.
