FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball trimmed an 18-point third quarter deficit down to three but was unable to complete the comeback Sunday, dropping a 94-79 decision to Cameron University at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
Cameron held a 54-36 lead with 7:23 left in the third before the Lady Lions went on a 21-6 run over the next six minutes. UAFS made four of its five made threes during the stretch.
However, the Aggies ended the quarter on a 5-0 run and extended the lead back to 18 in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter.
The Lions shot 64.3 percent in the third, outscoring the Aggies, 26-19. Cameron had previously led by double digits for the majority of the first half.
Cameron shot a blistering 15-for-30 from beyond the arc, while the Lions countered by attacking the lane and going 26-for-32 at the free throw line. Both teams scored 32 points in the paint.
Five players scored in double figures for UAFS, led by guard Paige Elston's 21 points. She also added four assists and was 6-for-6 at the charity stripe.
Guard Ashanti Eden scored 15 points while reserve forward Leiloni Culley added 13 points. Forward Mar'Shalia Lollie recorded her third double-double of the year by tallying 11 points and12 rebounds. Guard Riley Hayes rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points, five rebounds and three steals.
The Lions next opportunity in conference play comes Thursday at Lubbock Christian.
