FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith dropped its first home opener as an NCAA II member Friday, dropping an 18-25, 25-20, 23-25, 17-25 to Dallas Baptist at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
After the teams split the first two sets, DBU (3-1, 2-1 LSC) held off a UAFS (5-6, 0-3 LSC) comeback in the third set to swing the momentum of the match.
UAFS had trailed 19-12 in the set, but used an 8-1 run, led by two kills and a block by middle blocker Chyra Thompson to the set at 20. However, the Lady Lions had two service errors that allowed DBU to take the set.
Middle blocker Hannah Holland led the way offensively with 10 kills and a .357 attack percentage. Both Thompson and outside hitter Paola Fragalle added eight kills, with Thompson hitting .400.
Thompson has been part of a dynamic duo with Holland at the net, and once again had a strong night at the net with seven total blocks. Setter Chloe Price teamed up with Thompson numerous times at the net, registering six blocks.
Price recorded a double-double with 32 assists and 11 digs.
In the back row, libero Lexy Lewis led UAFS with 32 digs. Three others had double figure digs, including Price. Fragalle and setter Taylor Lintz each added 13 digs.
UAFS will look for its first conference win of the season Saturday when it hosts Texas Woman's University at 1 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center.
