FORT SMITH, Ark. – Seniors Wian Van Dyk and Zach Delmonico picked up an emotional win at number one doubles on senior day Friday versus St. Mary's, but University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Tennis fell 5-2 at the Fort Smith Athletic Club.
Van Dyk and Delmonico went back-and-forth with their opponents at number one before dominating the tiebreaker for a 7-6 (7-2) win. However, St. Mary's would win the other two doubles matches to claim the point.
UAFS would pick up a pair of wins in singles play at numbers two and four by Daniel Borrero and Ethan Eddleman, respectively. Borrero picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win, while Eddleman went all three sets, winning 6-7, 6-4, 10-2.
Nicolas Retamales went three sets, as well, but dropped a 3-6, 7-6, 2-6 decision at number three singles. Van Dyk had a close set one, but took a 6-7, 1-6 defeat.
UAFS will have next weekend off before resuming play April 23 at Western New Mexico.
