FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Tennis defeated John Brown University for the second time this season, defeating the Golden Eagles, 6-1, at the Fort Smith Athletic Club Wednesday.
UAFS (4-3) took two of three in doubles, with Wian Van Dyk and Zach Delmonico earning a 6-3 win at number one. Daniel Borrero and Nicolas Retamales tallied a 7-5 win at number three.
At number two, Andrew Anderson and Ethan Eddleman had to play a tiebreaker, but dropped the set 7-6 (7-3).
In singles play, Retamales earned a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at number two and Eddleman won 6-0, 6-1 at number three.
Delmonico defeated his opponent at number four, 6-1, 6-4 and Anderson picked up a 7-5, 6-2 win at number six. Borrero was forced to play three sets, but pulled out the 6-2, 5-7, 10-3 win.
JBU earned their only point of the match at number one singles when Van Dyk had to retire from the match up 4-2.
The Lions resume conference play Friday and Saturday at the Fort Smith Athletic Club against Dallas Baptist and Midwestern State, respectively.
