FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Tennis battled to the very end before Dallas Baptist secured the win late over the Lions, taking the conference matchup, 5-2.
UAFS got off to a quick start, taking the doubles point by winning two out of three. Wian Van Dyk and Zach Delmonico picked up a 6-1 win at number one with Daniel Borrero and Nicolas Retamales claiming a 6-2 win at number three.
Retamales rolled through his singles match at number four, winning 6-0, 6-1 to even the match at 2-2.
Borrero nearly gave the Lions a 3-2 lead, but came up short in three sets, 6-3, 6-7 (1-7), 1-6. Delmonico had an opportunity to tie the match, but the Patriots clinched the win when Delmonico was defeated 6-2, 4-6, 4-6.
A quick turnaround awaits the Lions, who will face Midwestern State Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Fort Smith Athletic Club.
