FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Tennis was swept by Cameron University, 7-0, to open Lone Star Conference play Thursday at the Fort Smith Athletic Club.
Nicolas Retamales and Daniel Borrero picked up a doubles win at number three, but the Aggies took the point by winning at number two and scraping by Wian Van Dyk and Zach Delmonico at number one, 7-5.
The Lions had a pair of close matches in singles play, but were unable to come up with the wins. Nicolas Retamales battled at number four, but lost both sets, 6-4, 6-4. Delmonico lost by the slimmest of margins, dropping his sets 7-6 (6-1), 7-5 at number five.
Next week sees three home matches for the Lions, starting with a nonconference matchup with John Brown University March 24 at the Fort Smith Athletic Club.
