Lady Lions claim LSC North Division with sweep

FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball claimed the Lone Star Conference North Division title Tuesday with a 25-21, 25-17, 25-15 sweep of Cameron University at the Stubblefield Center.

Winning the division allows the Lady Lions to host the opening round and quarterfinals of the LSC Tournament March 23-24.

UAFS never trailed through all three sets, scoring at least the first three points of each set. The Lady Lions (9-2) led 10-3 in set one before the teams traded points throughout the set. Cameron scored four in a row late to pull within 24-21, before committing an error to give the Lady Lions the set.

The Aggies kept set two close, trailing 15-13, when the UAFS went on a 6-0 run fueled by three aces by freshman setter Taylor Lintz. Sophomore outside hitter Julia McCown and sophomore right-side hitter Courtney Crownover each tallied a pair of kills for the final four points.

UAFS jumped out to an early lead in set three before Cameron fought back to tie the set on multiple occasions. Leading 11-10, UAFS went on an 11-2 spurt to put the set out of reach, led by three kills from freshman outside hitter Reagan Macha. In the set, UAFS hit .406 to just .054 for Cameron.

Crownover finally achieved her first triple-double of the season after coming close numerous times. She tallied 11 kills, 14 assists and 15 digs. She led the team in kills and digs on the evening.

Macha added 10 kills and three others had six as the Lady Lions outhit the Aggies .250 to .138. Lintz passed out a team-high 20 assists, while sophomore libero Lexy Lewis recorded double-digit digs with 10.

UAFS tied a season-high with 11 aces, getting four from sophomore middle blocker Hannah Holland and three from Lintz.

The Lady Lions conclude the regular season Wednesday by hosting the Aggies at the Stubblefield Center at 6 p.m.
