Lady Lions top Aggies on Senior Night

FORT SMITH, Ark.  – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball closed the regular season with a 20-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-21 over Cameron University Wednesday at the Stubblefield Center to head into the postseason with a three-match winning streak.

It wasn't easy for the Lady Lions (10-2), as they dropped the first set and saw an 11-2 lead turn into a 15-15 tie in set two.

But UAFS continued to battle, using a 5-2 run to break that tie and hang on for the set win. Things started to turn around in set three, as UAFS hit .353 to .000 for Cameron for a 25-16 win.

In the third, UAFS used a 7-0 run to pull ahead after trailing 10-9. The Lady Lions also used a 5-1 run late in the set to take a 2-1 lead.

Set four featured a pair of momentum swings, with UAFS jumping out to a 6-0 lead only for Cameron to answer with a 6-0 run of its own. The Aggies would eventually take a 10-8 lead, holding the lead until a 7-2 run by the Lady Lions gave them a 23-19 advantage.

UAFS would secure the match with a kill by sophomore right-side hitter Courtney Crownover followed by an error by the Aggies.

Both Crownover and freshman outside hitter Reagan Macha recorded double-doubles, with Crownper dishing out 27 assists and tallying 13 digs. Macha led the team in both kills and digs, with 15 and 18, respectively.

Sophomore middle blocker Hannah Holland amassed 12 kills on a .462 attack percentage, while also collecting seven blocks at the net.

Freshman setter Taylor Lintz tied Crownover with 27 assists, while sophomore libero Lexy Lewis added 14 digs.

Next up for UAFS is the Lone Star Conference Tournament, which starts March 23-24. By winning the LSC North Division, UAFS earned the right to host the opening round and quarterfinals. St. Edward's will play UT Permian Basin March 23 at the Stubblefield Center with the winner advancing to play UAFS March 24.
