Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Offense comes alive in bounce-back win

FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball bounced back in a big way Wednesday, defeating Midwestern State in four sets, 25-21, 26-24, 22-25, 25-19 at the Stubblefield Center.

The Lady Lions' (8-2, 8-2 LSC) offense had its best outing since defeating Oklahoma Christian at home a month ago, hitting .262. Four players hit above .300 and had nine or more kills.

Leading the way were sophomore right-side hitter Courtney Crownover and sophomore middle blocker Hannah Holland, who had 14 and 11 kills, respectively. Crownover hit .316 while Holland hit .429. Adding to the balanced attack, sophomore outside hitter Julia McCown totaled nine kills and hit .500.

Crownover and freshman setter Taylor Lintz continued to share the love, with junior right-side hitter Faith Marabella adding nine kills on a .421 attack percentage. Freshman outside hitter Reagan Macha added 10 kills, as well. Crownover dished out 24 assists and Lintz 21.

UAFS took a commanding 2-0 lead after an up-and-down second set. The Lady Lions quickly led 7-0 and 9-1, but the Mustangs rallied back to tie the set at 18-18. UAFS scored five of the next six for a 23-19 advantage, but MSU rattled off five in a row out of a timeout to force set point at 24-23.

Crownover, however, would not let the Lady Lions down, knocking down a pair of kills to go with a MSU error to score the final three points of the set.

The Lady Lions rallied with a 4-0 spurt in set three to tie it at 19-19, but a 4-1 run by the Mustangs allowed them to hang on to pull within 2-1.

Set four was tied 11-11 before UAFS put the match out of reach with another 7-0 run. Holland led the effort with three kills and a block during the run.

Although MSU would answer with a 5-0 run of its own, the UAFS offense went back on the attack with kills by McCown and Crownover to build the lead back to five. Crownover and Holland then ended the set with back-to-back kills.

Holland was also active at the net, registering five assisted and one solo block. Along the back line, sophomore libero Lexy Lewis had a match-high 26 digs, with Macha adding 16 for a double-double. Junior defensive specialist Jazzlyn Wells added 13 digs.

UAFS will conclude the regular season March 16-17 by hosting Cameron University at the Stubblefield Center.
