CONWAY, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Tennis opened its season with a sweep of in-state NCAA III foe Hendrix College Saturday, defeating the Warriors, 9-0 at the Hatcher Tennis Center.
The Lions dominated from the start, dropping only a single point in doubles action. Wian Van Dyk and Zach Delmonico paired for the win at number one, winning 8-1. Both flights two and three, were decided by 8-0 margins.
Van Dyk then completed the 6-0, 6-0 sweep at number one, along with Delmonico at number five and freshman Nicolas Retamales at number four singles.
Daniel Borrero claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win at number two, while Ethan Eddleman won 6-1, 6-0 at number three. To complete the afternoon, Andrew Andeson won 6-0, 6-1 at number six.
Next up for the Lions is its home opener February 16 against John Brown College at the Fort Smith Athletic Club, as its match scheduled for February 11 against Southeastern Oklahoma State has been postponed due to inclement weather in the forecast.
