FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Tennis dropped its home opener Tuesday afternoon, falling 7-0 to Ouachita Baptist at the Fort Smith Athletic Club.
The Lions (1-1) had two singles matches got three sets, but were unable to come away with points.
At number four singles, Nicolas Retamales won his first set, 7-5, before dropping set two, 3-6 to even up the match. In the decisive third set, his opponent scored the 10-7 win for the point.
Zach Delmonico won his first set at number five singles, as well, 6-1, before dropping set two, 2-6. Delmonico battled until the end, but was bested in the final set, 6-10.
Ethan Eddleman played a tightly contested match at number three singles, dropping a 5-7, 3-6 decision.
UAFS dropped all three doubles matches as the Tigers (2-2) took the doubles point. OBU won 6-2 at both number one and number three, with Eddleman and Andrew Anderson battling to a 4-6 defeat at number two.
Next up for the Lions is another NCAA III opponent, as they travel to University of the Ozarks Thursday afternoon. First serve is 2 p.m.
