Lady Lions sweep Eagles for third straight win

FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball earned a 3-0 and series sweep over Oklahoma Christian Wednesday at the Stubblefield Center, defeating the Eagles 25-20, 25-8, 25-15.

The Lady Lions (3-1, 3-1 LSC) were on the attack from the beginning, registering a .389 attack percentage in set one. UAFS started the set on a 6-1 run, led by three kills from sophomore middle blocker Hannah Holland.

Oklahoma Christian rallied to tie the set at 12, and briefly took a 14-3 lead. Tied at 16, UAFS went on another 6-1 run, taking advantage of four Eagle attack errors and a pair of kills by sophomore right-side hitter Courtney Crownover. Crownover later had two more kills to finish off the set.

Set two was all UAFS, as the Lady Lions hit .394 while holding the Eagles to -.024. It was another fast start for the Lady Lions, racing out to a 10-1 advantage. The Eagles were able to trade the next few points, before UAFS ended the set on a 7-0 run.

The Lady Lions had struggled in the third set in previous matches this season, but this time were able to put the Eagles away. The trend of fast starts continued, with UAFS quickly leading, 8-1, as freshman outside hitter Reagan Macha ended the run with three straight aces.

After Oklahoma Christian fought back to pull within five, UAFS scored seven straight to force match point. Junior middle blocker Jordan Babcock had two kills and sophomore outside hitter Julia McCown had three during the game ending run.

McCown led the Lady Lions with 11 kills while hitting .333, as UAFS hit .356 as a team. The trio of Crownover, Holland and junior right-side hitter Faith Marabella all had eight kills apiece.

Crownover just missed a triple-double for the second consecutive night, tallying 19 assists and 18 digs.

Elsewhere, sophomore defensive specialist Molly Kingston totaled 12 assists, while sophomore libero Lexy Lewis had 10 digs and Macha 14.

UAFS will remain at the Stubblefield Center next week, hosting Cameron University February 16-17.
