FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball held Arkansas Baptist to single digits in three quarters to pick up a 76-43 victory Tuesday at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
The Lady Lions defense held the Buffaloes to 34.7 percent shooting for the game and 20.0 percent from beyond the arc.
After a slow start in the first quarter, UAFS picked up the pace in the second, outscoring the Buffaloes 26-8 by shooting 47.8 percent from the floor. UAFS would hold a 43-17 lead at the break.
The Lions built the lead up to 29 in quarter three, but the Buffaloes would not go away, outscoring the Lions by a basket in the quarter. However, the Lions defense stifled the Buffaloes to 28.6 percent shooting in the fourth as they led by as many as 35.
UAFS took 35 more shots than the Buffaloes and had a 53-38 edge on the glass. The Lions turned 29 offensive rebounds into 27 second chance points. UAFS also had a 36-22 advantage in points in the paint and 19-6 in points off turnovers.
Forward Mar'Shalia Lollie led the Lions with 14 points and nine rebounds, with seven coming on the offensive end. She was an efficient 7-for-10 from the field.
Guard Ashanti Eden added 11 points off the bench as 13 Lions recorded a point. Guard Kalina Foster and forward Shania Wilson each scored nine points.
UAFS also had a season best 18 assists with only seven turnovers. Guard Paige Elston led UAFS with five dimes.
Next up for UAFS is a nonconference matchup against Lone Star Conference foe Midwestern State Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center.
