FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball dropped a 74-38 decision to Texas Woman's University Thursday at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
UAFS shot just 13.3 percent in the second half and 24.4 percent for the game as it struggled to get shots to fall.
The Lady Lions started the game off with five quick points, but the Pioneers would answer with a 10-0 run of their own.
UAFS trailed by six at the end of the first quarter, but tied things up at 17 on a three by guard Rebecca Christodoulou. TWU then scored six straight before the Lions battled back to within 27-25 at the break.
However, the Lions were outscored 21-0 in the third quarter and were held without a field goal until the final minute of the fourth quarter as the Pioneers blew the game open.
Guard Nya Stewart led the Lions with 12 points and five rebounds, while guard Paige Elston scored six points with eight rebounds. Christodoulou chipped in with seven points.
TWU outscored UAFS 40-10 in points in the paint and 37-14 in points off turnovers.
UAFS will next go for its second win of the season Tuesday, December 7 at 5:30 p.m. against Arkansas Baptist at the Stubblefield Center.
