Lady Lions bounce back with win over Midwestern State

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball got back on track Saturday with a five-set, 19-25, 25-16, 25-19, 20-25, 15-10 win at Midwestern State.

UAFS led 5-1 out of the gates, but the Mustangs hit .400 in set one as they took the early lead over the Lady Lions.

The Lions would flip the script in set two, holding the Mustangs to a .047 attack percentage while hitting .370 themselves. UAFS had four different 3-0 runs during the set.

Midwestern State had a 5-0 run early in set three, but the Lions later broke a 14-14 tie with an 8-1 run. In set four, both teams traded 4-0 runs early before the Mustangs broke a 15-all deadlock with a 7-1 spurt to tie the match.

In the decisive fifth set, UAFS jumped out to a 6-1 advantage and extended the lead to 9-3 and held off a 4-0 rally from Midwestern State to seal the victory.

Three players totaled double-digit kills, led by outside hitter Reagan Macha's 15. Middle blocker Hannah Holland had 13 kills with a .419 attack percentage while outside hitter Savannah Wharton tallied 10 kills. Setter Chloe Alderson set the trio up with 38 assists.

Libero Jazzlyn Wells led five players with double figure digs with 23. Right-side hitter Courtney Crownover recorded 17 digs and defensive specialist Lexy Lewis 16 digs. Alderson and Macha produced double-doubles with 13 and 11 digs, respectively.

UAFS totaled 14 blocks in the match, including seven assisted and one solo for Holland. Fittingly, Holland teamed with Crownover to end the match with a block.

The Lions return home for the final weekend of the regular season to host Texas A&M International and Texas A&M – Kingsville.
