FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball fell 91-61 to Henderson State Wednesday in a nonconference contest at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
The Reddies jumped out front from the beginning, leading 11-0 and 30-12 after the first quarter.
UAFS would make a run in the second quarter, cutting a 41-22 deficit to 43-32 with six points from guard Paige Elston and four from forward Mar'Shalia Lollie. However, the Reddies scored six straight points over the final minute before a floater from Dachelle Terry at the buzzer left the halftime deficit at 49-34.
Henderson State would come out of the break shooting 73.3 percent in the third quarter as it extended its lead, preventing a Lions comeback.
The Reddies shot 55.1 percent from the floor compared to 37.3 for the Lions. HSU also scored 68 points in the paint and won the battle on the boards, 45-34.
Elston led UAFS with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Lollie chipped in 10 points with eight rebounds. Guard Kalina Foster matched her season-high with seven points. Elston also dished out five assists.
UAFS continues nonconference play December 2 against LSC foe Texas Woman's University at the Stubblefield Center.
