FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball earned back-to-back wins with a thrilling five-set victory over UT Permian Basin Saturday at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
UAFS defeated the Falcons (9-5, 4-2 LSC) with set scores of 15-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-21, 15-5.
The Lady Lions (8-9, 3-5 LSC) dominated the fifth set, hitting .421 to just .059 for the Falcons. UAFS broke a 2-2 tie with an 8-2 run, then closed the match with five straight points, including three consecutive aces by middle blocker Hannah Holland.
UAFS trailed by three after a 4-0 run by the Falcons in set four, but tied the match at 12 with a 4-1 run. After UTPB broke the tie, the Lions used a 5-0 run to grab a 17-13 lead.
The teams traded points until UTPB used a 4-1 run to pull within 22-21, but the Falcons committed a pair of errors to give the set to the Lions and tie the match. UAFS hit .306 in set four.
Holland recorded six of the Lions' 10 aces in the match, the fourth most in a single match in program history. Holland also tallied 12 kills on a .348 attack percentage.
Outside hitter Paola Fragalle paced the offensive attack by hitting a team-high .414 while adding a season-high 14 kills. Outside hitter Reagan Macha had a team-high 15 kills.
Libero Jazzlyn Wells led the defensive effort for UAFS with 22 digs, while Fragalle and Macha recorded double-doubles with 17 and 10 digs, respectively.
Setter Chloe Alderson dished out 39 assists and just missed a double-double with nine digs.
UAFS continues conference play on the road next week by visiting Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M.
