SHAWNEE, Okla. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball took on another ranked foe Tuesday, but fell 3-1 at No. 19 Oklahoma Baptist, 22-25, 23-25, 25-17, 19-25.
The Lady Lions (6-9) went down to the wire in the first two sets with the Bison, trailing by just one late in each set, but were unable to steal a set.
UAFS was in control for set three, hitting .237 for the set while holding Oklahoma Baptist to a .081 mark. OBU closed within 14-12 in the set, but UAFS answered with a 5-2 run with a pair of kills from middle blocker Hannah Holland to break the set open.
After a back-and-forth start to set four, the Bison upped their lead to as many as eight points. UAFS crept back in the match with a 5-0 run, including two aces by defensive specialist Taylor Lintz, but four Bison kills put the match away.
Setter Chloe Alderson got her first career start and dished out 45 assists while adding 10 digs for a double-double.
Three players posted double digit kills, led by outside hitter Savannah Wharton's 15. Outside hitter Reagain Macha tallied 12 kills, while Holland had 10. Middle blocker Chyra Thompson contributed nine kills.
Libero Jazzlyn Wells paced the Lady Lion back row with 21 digs, with Macha recording 14 digs and Lintz 10. Lintz had three of the team's seven aces.
Holland led the effort at the net with four blocks.
UAFS returns home Friday to face Western New Mexico at 6 p.m. at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
