OKLAHOMA CITY – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball continued its second half surge up the conference standings by sweeping Oklahoma Christian Saturday, 25-19, 25-22, 25-20.
UAFS had a balanced attack offensively, with five players recording at least five kills and no one with more than 10.
Outside hitter Reagan Macha led UAFS with nine kills, while outside hitter Savannah Wharton and middle blocker Hannah Holland each had eight kills. Holland had a team-high .412 attack percentage.
UAFS started the match by jumping out to a 7-1 advantage and extended the lead to 21-10. Oklahoma Christian made things interesting with a 7-0 run to pull within four, but the Lady Lions shut the door with three straight points.
Trailing 13-11 in set two, the Lions scored five consecutive points with the help of three Eagle errors. The Eagles regained the lead at 21-20, but UAFS responded with a 4-0 run and finished the set with a kill from middle blocker Chyra Thompson.
Set three went back-and-forth until the Lions broke a 16-16 tie on five straight errors by OC and used an 8-1 run to set up a Macha kill for match point.
Thompson contributed seven kills and right-side hitter Courtney Crownover had five kills. Setter Chloe Alderson dished out 32 assists and tallied nine digs.
Libero Jazzlyn Wells led the Lions with 15 digs and was joined in double figures by Crownover and Macha with 13 and 10, respectively.
UAFS has four matches remaining in the regular season, beginning with a matchup at Cameron University November 5.
