Lollie dominates the glass in first win of 2021

ODESSA, Texas – Senior center Mar'Shalia Lollie scored 18 points and grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds to lead University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball to a 72-59 win at UT Permian Basin Saturday afternoon.

The 20 rebounds are the second most in a single game in program history, only behind Angi Ramey's 25 against Rogers State in March 2015. Lollie had 10 rebounds at both the offensive and defensive ends.

UAFS (1-4, 1-4 LSC) held a 51-39 advantage on the glass for the game, including 23 offensive rebounds. The Lady Lions scored 12 second chance points with the extra opportunities.

The Lady Lions blew open the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Falcons (1-1, 0-1 LSC) 19-9 in the frame, turning a 38-30 halftime lead into a 57-39 advantage. The defense held UTPB to just 16.7 percent from the floor in the third, and 31.3 percent for the game.

UAFS led by as many as 20 in the third, as they started the period on a 15-3 run, with 13 points coming from senior guard Paige Elson and Lollie.

Four others joined Lollie in scoring double figures, led by senior guard Dachelle Terry's 15 points. Elston and sophomore guard Hannah Boyett each added 13, while freshman guard Nya Stewart had the best game of her young career by adding 11 points. Both Terry and Stewart connected on three triples.

Elson also contributed seven boards and seven assists. Sophomore forward Laurissa Campbell snagged eight boards.

The offense started hot for the Lady Lions, shooting 53.3 percent in the opening quarter en route to an early 18-12 lead. They continued to shoot the ball well in the first half by going 4-for-7 from beyond the arc in the second quarter.

UAFS held a 30-22 edge in points in the paint, and scored 21 points off 18 Falcon turnovers. The Lady Lions held the lead for over 34 minutes of the game.
