Women's Basketball returns to action at A&M-Commerce

FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball returns to action this week, as the Lady Lions travel to Texas A&M-Commerce Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff in a rescheduled game from last weekend. 

The game will be broadcast on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network, where a daily pass can be purchased for $10. The game at A&M-Commerce will feature pass list only entry. Live stats will also be available at uafortsmithlions.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: UAFS had its home game against Texas A&M-Commerce postoponed, and has rescheduled the road game at A&M-Commerce for January 19.

LAST TIME OUT: The Lady Lions swept UT Permian Basin on the road to open 2021, winning 72-59 and 86-57.

40: UAFS outscored the Falcons 53-13 over the second and third quarters during the 86-57 win.

20: Senior center Mar'Shalia Lollie became the second player in NCAA II to record 20 rebounds in a game this season, securing a double-double of 18 points and 20 rebounds in the 72-59 triumph.

UPSET ALERT: To cap the 2019-20 regular season, the Lady Lions upset #4 Texas A&M-Commerce, 85-84, at the Stubblefield Center. A&M-Commerce is currently ranked #17 in the D2SIDA poll.

SLUMP SNAPPED: UAFS entered its series against Permian Basin shooting just 17.3 percent from beyond the arc. In the two games against the Falcons, the Lady Lions shot 19-for-41 (46.3%), including 11-for-22 in game two. They also shot over 40 percent overall for the first two times this season.

FROM THE LINE: The Lady Lions lead the league in free throw percentage at 79.5 percent. They have connected on 116-of-146 attempts.

RECORD WATCH: Sophomore guard Hannah Boyett is 5th all-time with 91 career made threes. Her 78 made threes in 2019-20 are the most in a single season in program history.

TAKE THAT BALL AWAY: The Lady Lions are third in the LSC in turnover margin, with a plus-5.0 margin per game. UAFS forces 21.7 turnovers per game, while turning it over just 16.7 times, also third best in the league. Senior guard Paige Elston is fourth in the LSC with 2.8 steals per game.

8.8: Senior center Mar'Shalia Lollie is averaging 8.8 rebounds per game, fourth in the Lone Star Conference.

SCOUTING A&M-COMMERCE: TheLions are off to a 5-1, 5-0 LSC start, including 2-0 at home. Four players average double figures, led by sophomore guard Dyani Robinson's 21.7 points per game. Sophomore forward DesiRay Kernal averages 18.2 points while also pulling down 6.2 boards per game.

THE SERIES: Last season was the first year in which the two teams met on the hardwood, with each team winning its home matchup.
