Ahead of the senior day, UAFS women's basketball team has made a big step for improving their conference standings as the Lady Lions defeated UT Tyler Patriots by the score of 89-61. The Lady Lions were led by
Hannah Boyett with 18 points on 6-16 shooting from the field while also adding three assists and two steals. UAFS is now 13-14 overall on the season and 10-11 in conference play.
Offensively, the Lady Lions scored 89 points while shooting 45.7 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from the three point line and 78.9 percent from the charity stripe. UAFS was led in scoring by Boyett (18) and
Leiloni Culley (13) while
Tamera Gulley,
Mar'Shalia Lollie and
Dachelle Terry added 12 points each. As a team, the Lady Lions scored 36 points in the paint while their bench contributed 33 points. UAFS distributed 20 assists and were led by
Alexsis Brown (9).
On the defensive end, UAFS held UT Tyler to 61 points on 40 percent shooting from the field, 15 percent from downtown and 63.6 percent from the free throw line. The Lady Lions grabbed 38 rebounds and were led by Lollie (8) ,
Paige Elston (5) while four players rabbed four rebounds (Gulley, Terry, Culley,
Laurissa Campbell). UAFS forced 29 turnovers from their opponents and scored 38 points off those while also recording 17 steals, led by Terry (5).
UAFS women's basketball team will proceed the weekend to take on #6 A&M-Commerce at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Stubblefield Center. The upcoming game against the A&M-C is also a senior day celebration, honoring two outstanding UAFS Lady Lions' seniors,
Alexsis Brown and
