Upset! That is the word that would appropriately describe Lady Lions' win against a heavy favorite no. 4/6 A&M-Commerce. However, coach Cummings' players have proven in the last several games that they can fight against the best in the nation. UAFS has defeated A&M-Commerce by the score of 85-84 and gave them only second loss of the season. Lady Lions showed an extreme amount of energy in this game, led by their seniors
Tamera Gulley with 12 points, four rebounds and six blocks and
Alexsis Brown with 15 points, six rebounds and six assists.
Lady Lions led most of the game but A&M-C never gave up. Every attempt at taking the lead over was met with the resilient defense and disciplined offense from the Lady Lions.
At the score 84-82, senior
Alexsis Brown played a pick-and-pop with
Leiloni Culley who made a go-ahead three pointer for the Lady Lions giving them an 85-84 lead. With only few seconds left,
Tamera Gulley blocked A&M-C's final attempt at winning the game, giving the Lady Lions a huge senior night and homecoming win.
Lady Lions thus finish the regular season with a 14-14 overall record and 11-11 in conference play and are now preparing for the Lone Star Conference tournament as they travel to Austin, Texas to take on #7 St. Edward's.
