This week's UAFS women's basketball schedule features two games against returning conference opponents as the Lions host UT-Tyler on Thursday at 5:30 pm and Texas A&M ā Commerce on Saturday at 2 pm. Both games will be at the Gayle Kaundart Arena in Stubblefield Center. This weekend marks the last two games of the regular season for the Lady Lions as well as Senior Night for two of UAFS seniors,
Alexsis Brown and
Tamera Gulley. Saturday's game is the final opportunity to celebrate the impact that these two ladies have made on the UAFS Athletics program.
The Lady Lions are entering this weekend 12-14 over and 9-11 in conference play. They are currently tied for 10
th place with Midwestern State in the Lone Star Conference standings and are looking to secure a spot in the conference tournament. Historically, UAFS won against UT-Tyler the last time these two teams met up only a month ago. The Lady Lions won the game, 70-61. However, when UAFS played A&MāCommerce, they ended up losing a tough game, 46-82. The Lady Lions are hoping to avoid a repeat of the past and come out of Saturday's game with a big win.
So far in the season, the Lady Lions are averaging 65.3 points per game, shooting 40.7 percent from the field, 28.1 percent from the three-point line, and 69.9 percent from the free-throw line.
Hannah Boyett leads the team with 10.7 points per game, with
Mar'Shalia Lollie following close behind with 10.6 points per game. The Lady Lions are also averaging 12.8 assists per game.
Alexsis Brown has the most assists per game with 4.0 apg and
Paige Elston follows her with 2.9 apg.
On the other side of the court, the Lady Lions are allowing their opponents to score 69.8 points per game, shooting 42.7 percent from the field, 31.8 percent from the three-point line, and 69.1 percent from the free-throw line. Defensively, the Lady Lions are grabbing an average of 36.0 rebounds per game.
Tamera Gulley and
Mar'Shalia Lollie lead this category with 7.3 rebounds per game. They are also forcing 20.9 turnovers per game and scoring 17.3 points off of those turnovers.
