The UAFS women's basketball team is set to take one last road trip of their regular season this weekend as they get ready to play two more conference games. The Lady Lions will take on Midwestern State on Thursday at 5:30 pm at the D.L Ligon Coliseum in Wichita Falls, Texas and Cameron University on Saturday at 2:00 pm at the Aggie Gym in Lawton, Oklahoma.
The last time the Lady Lions played against these two teams, they walked away with a win and a loss. The first time UAFS played Midwestern State, the Lady Lions came out and beat the Mustangs 80-60, increasing their series lead to 2-1. Midwestern State is currently 9-13 overall and 7-11 in conference play. However, the last time that UAFS played Cameron, they lost 68-73 but are still leading the all-time series, 2-1. Cameron is 11-13 overall and 10-8 in conference play. The Lady Lions will be looking to force a different outcome than the last matchup and come out of the weekend with two more wins.
Adding two more wins will help the Lady Lions' standings in the conference. Currently, UAFS is 10
th in the Lone Star Conference standings and is in a good place to make the conference tournament, which takes place in the beginning of March. UAFS' record is 12-12 overall and 9-9 in conference play.
Offensively, the Lady Lions are currently scoring 64.2 points per game while shooting 40.1 percent from the field, 28.4 percent from the three point line and 70.8 percent from the free throw line. The leading scorers for the Lady Lions are
Mar'Shalia Lollie (10.3 ppg.),
Hannah Boyett (9.9 ppg.) and
Ashanti Eden (9.0 ppg.). UAFS is averaging 12.4 assists per game, led by
Alexsis Brown (3.5 apg.) and
Paige Elston (3.0 apg.).
On the defensive end of things, the Lady Lions are currently allowing 68.3 points per game on 41.8 percent shooting from the field, 30.3 percent from the three point line and 68.5 percent from the charity stripe. The Lady Lions typically outrebound their opponents with 36.4 rebounds per game, led by
Tamera Gulley (7.7 rpg.) and Lollie (7.2 rpg.). UAFS, as a team, forces 21.5 turnovers per game and scores 17.3 points per game off those turnovers. The Lady Lions also record 9.5 steals per game, led by
