Lions to begin new year at UTPB

FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball returns to action January 2-3, as the Lions travel to UT Permian Basin for their first game since December 12.

No fans will be permitted inside the Falcon Dome, as the Lions and Falcons tip off at 4 p.m. each day following the conclusion of the women's game. To follow from home, a $10 daily pass will be available to watch on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network as well as live stats on uafortsmithlions.com.

NOTES:

LAST TIME OUT: UAFS lost its first two games of the 2020-21 season, falling 84-74 and 89-58 at Texas A&M-Kingsville to open the season.

LAST WEEKEND: The Lions had their home opening series against No. 3 West Texas A&M postponed due to COVID-19 protocols. 

RECORD WATCH: Senior guard Matthew Wilson is 7th all-time with 87 career made three-point field goals, two behind Josh Simmons for 6th.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Senior forward Chris Rollins posted a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds in game two against TAMUK. He is averaging a double-double of 17.0 points and 10.0 rebounds on the young season.

70.1: The Lions defense allowed 70.1 points per game last season, the fewest per game in a season as a NCAA II member. The mark was 5th best in the LSC last season.

21.0: Senior guard Matthew Wilson is fifth in the LSC and leads the Lions in scoring at 21.0 points per game.

HELLO, NEWMAN: UAFS will face former head coach and current Falcon head coach Josh Newman this weekend. Newman coached the Lions from 2006-18 and led the transition to NCAA II, posting a 168-100 NCAA II record with one conference tournament championships and four NCAA II Tournament appearances.

SCOUTING UTPB: The Falcons have started the season 5-0, 4-0 LSC, including a pair of two-point wins. Three Falcons average double figures as they average 88.6 points per game. Senior guard Jordan Horn leads the team with 22.4 points per game while senior guard Trevion Lamar averages 19.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.

THE SERIES: UAFS leads the series 11-6 with the Falcons. The Lions won last season's meeting, 78-75, in Odessa.
