UAFS men's basketball is preparing to host the first conference homestand of the new year as the Lions prepare to take on (15/17) Dallas Baptist and Tarleton State. After playing against (7) St. Edward's on Saturday, Thursday's game against Dallas Baptist will be the second one in a row against a nationally-ranked opponent. UAFS will meet with the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday while they match up against Tarleton State at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Stubblefield Center.
The Lions are entering this week 6-7 overall on the season and 2-5 in conference play. Historically, the UAFS has played many tough games against Dallas Baptist and the Lions currently lead the all-time series with 11-10. Last meting between the two teams was during the Heartland Conference tournament in Tulsa, Okla. where DBU won by the score of 64-85. On the other hand, this will be the first-ever meeting between the Lions and Tarleton State.
So far in the season, the Lions average 68.2 points per game while shooting 45.5 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc and 68.2 percent from the free throw line. The Lions are led in scoring by senior guard
Brian Halums (24.4 ppg.) while
Matthew Wilson is scoring 16 and
Chris Rollins is adding 7.8 points per game. As a team, the Lions are passing the ball well with 12.4 assists per game, led by junior point guard
Charles Botchway with 4.1 assists per game.
On the other side of the court, the Lions are currently allowing their opponents 70.7 points per game on 43.8 percent shooting from the field, 35.5 from the three point line and 70.7 percent from the charity stripe. As a team, UAFS averages 33.1 rebounds per game led by Halums (7.8 rpg.), Rollins (5.8 rpg.) and
Matt Morgan (3.7 rpg.). The Lions force 12.5 turnovers pre game from their opponents while also recording 5.8 steals per game, led by Wilson with 1.3 steals per game.
