Lollie's Historic Performance Powers Lady Lions Past St. Edward's On The Road

UAFS women's basketball team, led by an all-time historic performance from Mar'Shalia Lollie, has swept the first roadtrip of the year as the Lady Lions defeated St. Edward's in a thriller by the score of 66-62. Lollie led the Lady Lions with 39 points on 73.9 percent shooting from the field and 15 rebounds. Lolle's scoring performance (39) is the all-time single-game highest in the UAFS Division II history.

Head Coach Tari Cummings was glowing with pride after the game, "I am so proud of Mar'Shalia for her performance today, she stepped up in a huge way today. She played with great confidence and was unstoppable!" Coach Cummings also added, "Mar'Shalia continues to improve every day and goes above and beyond for this team." 

After sweeping the weekend, Lady Lions are now 6-7 on the season and 3-4 in the conference play. 

Offensively, UAFS shot 41.2 percent from the field, only 8.3 percent from the three point line and 75 percent from the charity stripe. Mar'Shalia Lollie led all scorers with 39 points while Leiloni Culley added eight while Alexsis Brown, Hannah Boyett, and Laurissa Campbell added five points each. UAFS passed the ball well with 16 assists, led by Alexsis Brown (8) while Ashanti Eden added four. 

Defensively, the Lady Lions held their opponents to a 38.9 percent shooting from the field, paltry 21.4 percent from beyond the arc and 60.7 percent from the free throw line. The Lady Lions grabbed 44 rebounds, outrebounding their opponents by nine rebounds. They were led in rebounding by Lollie (15) while Boyett and Tamera Gulley added six each. UAFS forced 21 turnovers from their opponents while recording 12 steals - led by Lollie and Ashanti with three each. 

Lady Lions are continuing conference play next week with a conference homestand against Texas Woman's on Thursday and Tarleton State on Saturday. Tickets for these games are on sale now and available at the UAFS Box Office located within the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center or by phone at 479-788-7300.
