Lions on the Road in First Conference Series

The UAFS baseball team is starting off their season in Laredo, Texas this weekend. They are looking to begin their season with a series win as they take on the Texas A&M International Dustdevils in a three-game series. The series will begin with a game on Friday at 1:00 pm, continue with a game on Saturday at 1:00 pm, and conclude with a third game on Sunday at 1:00 pm. This is the first time that the Lions will be competing in the Lone Star Conference, after moving from the Heartland Conference which has been their home for the past 10 years.

When asked about his thoughts for the upcoming year, Head Coach Todd Holland says that "It is a new team and a new year. We have not had any non-conference games to figure out and tweak the offense and defense. Weather has [also] been awful this spring [so] we will see what our team is made of during this weekend".

UAFS baseball team is picked to finish 6th in the 2020 Lone Star Conference competition according to the annual preseason poll by coaches, sports information directors and local media representatives. UAFS is coming off a 27-19 record in 2019 season overall and 13-8 record in conference play which ranked them third in Heartland Conference standings.Coach Holland is returning five position players, one starting pitcher and three relief pitching specialists for 2020 season.

Historically, the Lions lead the all-time series against the Dustdevils by 24-8. Last season UAFS swept the series against TAMIU (3-0) with the latest matchup ending in Lions' win by the score of 19-4.
