Boyett Helps Lady Lions Bounce Back Against Midwestern State

UAFS women's basketball team has bounced back in the "Purple Game"  and second game of the weekend as the Lady Lions defeated Midwestern State by the score of 80-60. The Lady Lions players and coaches wore purple to raise awareness of Alzheimer's and Dementia prevention efforts.The Lady Lions were led by freshman Hannah Boyett with 26 points and three steals. UAFS is now 9-10 overall on the season and 6-7 in conference play. 

Following the big win, head coach Tari Cummings commended the team spirit that played role in this game, "I am proud of our young ladies for bouncing back from Thursday's tough loss. This was a solid team win!" 

Offensively, the Lady Lions scored 80 points while shooting 48.2 percent from the field, 40.9 percent from downtown and 77.3 percent from the free throw line. The Lady Lions were led in scoring by Boyett (26)  while Mar'Shalia Lollie and Paige Elston added 13 points each. As a team, UAFS recorded 22 assists, led by Alexsis Brown with eight assists. 

On the defensive end, the Lady Lions held Midwestern State to 60 points on 41.3 percent shooting from the field, 0 percent from the three points line and 59.5 percent from the charity stripe. UAFS won the rebounding battle with 33 rebounds, 24 defensive and nine offensive. The Lady Lions were balanced in rebounding as four players grabbed three, Elston recorded six and and Lollie added four. UAFS also forced 25 turnovers and scored 29 points points off turnovers. Boyett (3) led the Lady Lions in steals, while as a team they recorded 11. 

UAFS women's basketball will be back in action with another home game next week as the Lady Lions take on Oklahoma Christian at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Live stats and live video broadcast will be available for this game.
