UAFS women's basketball team has begun the conference homestand with a loss as the Lady Lions fell to Cameron Aggies by the score of 68-73.
Tamera Gulley led the Lady Lions with a double-double effort with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Lady Lions are now 2-1 in all-time series against the Aggies. Overall, UAFS is now 8-10 on the season and 5-7 in conference play.
Offensively, the Lady Lions scored 68 points and were led in scoring by
Hannah Boyett (14) and
Ashanti Eden (14) while Gulley added 13 points. As a team UAFS shot 36.4 percent from the field, 27.8 percent from the three point line and 62.5 percent from the free throw line. The Lady Lions recorded 13 assists and were led by
Alexsis Brown with eight.
On the defensive end, the Lady Lions allowed Aggies to score 73 points in the game, while shooting 41.4 percent from the field, 26.3percent from the three point line and 69 percent from the charity stripe. UAFS grabbed 35 rebounds as a team, 23 defensive and 12 offensive. The Lady Lions were powered in the rebounding battle by Gulley (10) and
Mar'Shalia Lollie (5) while three players contributed three rebounds each (Brown, Boyett, and
Laurissa Campbell). UAFS forced 19 turnovers and recorded seven steals, led by Gulley (4).
UAFS women's basketball team will be back in action on Saturday as the Lady Lions take on Midwestern State at 2 p.m. on Saturday as a part of the inaugural "Purple Night", creating awareness and raising funds for Alzheimer's and Dementia.
