UAFS women's basketball has concluded the Texas conference roadtrip with an overtime win in the second game of the weekend as the Lady Lions defeated UT Tyler by the score of 70-61. The Lady Lions were led by
Tamera Gulley with 22 points and 12 rebounds. UAFS women's basketball team has improved to 8-9 overall on the season and 5-6 in conference play heading back to the friendly confines of Stubblefield Center.
The Lady Lions had a chance to close out the game in the regulation on multiple occasions.
Alexsis Brown missed her second free throw at the score 52-49 for the Lady Lions, and
Tamera Gulley made a big-time play with an offensive rebound which turned into a turnover by freshman
Hannah Boyett. The Patriots took the ball to the other side and their Kelsey Crouse scored a layup plus the fould from
Ashanti Eden, which put the score at 52-52. Crouse knocked down her free-throw and sent the game into overtime as the Lady Lions missed a desperation three pointer in the last second.
Offensively, the Lady Lions scored 70 points on 38.5 percent shooting from the field, 25 percent from beyond the arc and 77.8 percent from the free throw line. UAFS was led in scoring by Gulley (22) and
Dachelle Terry (10) while
Mar'Shalia Lollie and
Hannah Boyett added nine points. The Lady Lions passed the ball well with 13 assists, led by
Alexsis Brown (4).
On the defensive side of things, the Lady Lions allowed 61 points to their opponent on 40 percent shooting from the field, 37.5 percent shooting from downtown and 68.8 percent from the charity line. UAFS dominated the glass with 49 rebounds as a team, led by Gulley (12) and Lollie (10). The Lady Lions forced 22 turnovers from the Patriots while also recording seven steals, led by
Laurissa Campbell (3).
UAFS women's basketball team will be back in action on the upcoming Thursday as the Lady Lions host Cameron at 5:30 p.m. at Gayle Kaundart Arena in Stubblefield Center. Live stats and live video broadcast will be available for both of these games.
